Arenas, Garnett named NBA Players of the Week

NEW YORK - The Washington Wizards' Gilbert Arenas and the Minnesota Timberwolves' Kevin Garnett today were named the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, Jan. 1, through Sunday, Jan. 7.

Arenas, who was recently named NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month for December, averaged 33.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 7.3 assists and 2.7 steals in helping Washington to a 2-1 week. He scored 32 points, including the game-winning three-pointer from 32-feet away as time expired, and recorded 11 rebounds, eight assists and four steals in the Wizards 108-105 win over Milwaukee on Jan. 3.

Garnett averaged 27.5 points, 14.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.5 blocks in helping Minnesota to a 4-0 week. He registered a season-high 32 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in the Timberwolves' 102-96 win at Charlotte on Jan. 1, and posted 27 points, 17 rebounds, seven assists and three blocks in a 103-101 overtime win over San Antonio on Jan. 3.
