Swede Therese Borssen won the women's Alpine skiing World Cup slalom in Semmering of Austria on Friday within the total time of one minute 55.15 seconds.

Austrian Kathrin Zettel, the winner of giant slalom on Thursday finished 0.25 seconds later than Borssen and her compatriot Marlies Schild got the third place in 1 minute 55.57 seconds.

Schild made a big mistake at the end of second run and lost her chance of being a champion again like what she had done on December 28.in the giant slalom competition.

This gold medal was Borssen's first champion, her best slalom record was only the fifth place last year.

"I am more than lucky," the 22-year-old said. "I had thought I would definitely get the second place this time."

At the opening run in the afternoon, Borssen was listed second and Schild was in the leading place. Borssen's teammate Anja Paerson, the Olympic champion, didn't take the slalom because of her knee surgery.

Schild, the winner of giant slalom and slalom in Semmering two years ago, broke into tears at the end of the competition.

Altogether 24 ski athletes participated in this competition. Excluding the surgery girl Paerson, nobody passed the first run without mistakes.

Semmering, the host place of slalom, was facing the problem of lacking snow at the end of November this year.

The women's Semmering World Cup slalom was the last skiing competition this year, according to the Alpine skiing schedule.
