Sixers fail 1st game after Iverson's leave(Reuters)Updated: 2006-12-21 14:15 NEW YORK - The Philadelphia 76ers began the post-Allen Iverson era with another defeat on Wednesday, a 101-93 home loss to the Indiana Pacers stretching their winless streak to 12 games. Iverson, who was the team's number one overall pick in 1996, was traded to the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday after he demanded a move and despite their best efforts, his former team mates were unable to bring an end to their worst run of form in a decade. Andre Miller and Joe Smith, the players acquired in the deal, did not play for Philadelphia (5-19) but they really could have used them as the depleted Sixers moved to within a defeat of matching the 13-game streak they suffered from December 28, 1996. Philadelphia was also without Chris Webber, who missed his third straight game with an injured ankle. "Our effort was good, not good enough to win the game," Sixers coach Maurice Cheeks told reporters. Jermaine O'Neal had 34 points and hauled down 11 rebounds for the Pacers (14-13), while Stephen Jackson scored 25 points. Danny Granger had 15 points for Indiana and Jeff Foster had 11 rebounds and scored eight points. Andre Iguodala and Kyle Korver both scored 20 points to lead Philadelphia. Samuel Dalembert had 16 points and 13 rebounds. *Baron Davis scored 31 points as the Golden State Warriors held off the Boston Celtics 96-95. Boston's five-game winning streak was snapped with the loss. *Kobe Bryant scored 24 points as the Los Angeles Lakers beat Minnesota 111-94. Kevin Garnett had 22 points and 11 rebounds for the Timberwolves. *Mo Williams had 19 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists for his first career triple-double as the Bucks beat the Miami Heat 121-95. Dwyane Wade scored 27 points for the struggling Heat. *In New York, David Lee's basket at the buzzer led the New York Knicks past the Charlotte Bobcats 111-109 in double overtime. *Vince Carter scored 38 points as the New Jersey Nets beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 113-111. LeBron James had 37 points in a losing cause. |
