Marbury's late basket lifts depleted Knicks over Jazz(Reuters)Updated: 2006-12-19 15:37 Stephon Marbury scored the winning basket as time expired to lift an undermanned New York Knicks to a surprise 97-96 overtime victory over the Utah Jazz on Monday. The Knicks could only field eight players after a mass brawl in a game against the Denver Nuggets two days ago resulted in four players being suspended, but New York rallied from a 16-point deficit to edge out Utah. Missing for New York were Nate Robinson, who received a 10-game ban for his role in Saturday's fight, Mardy Collins (six games), Jared Jefferies (four) and Jerome James (one). The Knicks were also without injured starters Steve Francis and Quentin Richardson. However, the Knicks (10-17) were still strong enough to get the better of Northeast Division leaders Utah (18-7), with Marbury scoring 29 points and David Lee added 17 points and pulling down a career-high 20 rebounds. Jamal Crawford had 18 points for the Knicks and Channing Frye chipped in with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Renaldo Balkman had 15 rebounds for New York. Deron Williams made a jumper with just three seconds left in overtime to give the Jazz a 96-95 lead but Marbury's layup went through the basket as the buzzer sounded, with the basket standing after an official review. New York has now beaten Utah in their last five meetings. Williams had 23 points for the Jazz, as did Carlos Boozer, who also added 10 rebounds for the Jazz. *The Denver Nuggets won their first game without star Carmelo Anthony, who was suspended 15 games for his part in the brawl against New York, as the Nuggets beat the Washington Wizards 117-108. Marcus Camby scored 25 points and had 17 rebounds for the Nuggets. * In Miami, Dwyane Wade scored 29 points as the Heat beat the New Orleans Hornets 101-99. *Jason Kidd had 10 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds for the 81st triple double of his career as the New Jersey Nets beat the Golden State Warriors 105-97. *Mike Miller scored 29 points and had 11 assists as the Memphis Grizzlies beat the Seattle Supersonics 134-126 in double overtime.
