NEW YORK - Earvin "Magic" Johnson, who led the Los Angeles Lakers to five NBA titles, is skeptical about his old coach Pat Riley adding Allen Iverson to his Miami Heat squad.

Riley this week expressed interest in four-times NBA scoring champion Iverson, who is estranged from the Philadelphia 76ers and awaiting a trade to another NBA team.

Johnson was unsure if Iverson could fit in at defending champions Heat with their key duo of Shaquille O'Neal and Dwyane Wade.

"You still got Shaq, you still got Wade. Then he comes in," Johnson, 47, told reporters Thursday before addressing high school students in the Bronx as part of a campaign to raise awareness about HIV/ AIDS.

"It's going to be a tough situation because he's used to taking 30 shots a game. He's not going to get 30 shots. So will he accept that? And will the other guys accept him being there and dominating the ball, because Allen still needs the ball to be effective."

Miami are one of numerous teams keen to explore a deal with the Sixers, who have already cleaned out Iverson's locker after accepting the problematic point guard's demand for a trade.

"I would be delinquent in my responsibility if I wasn't interested in Allen Iverson," Riley told reporters Wednesday when informed that the seven-times All-Star had listed the Heat among his preferred destinations.

"That's all I'm going to say. I'm not going to comment anymore. Just like when Shaquille (O'Neal) came out, I was frothing at the mouth. So my level of interest can be gauged on that comment."

Riley pulled off a blockbuster trade in 2004 when he obtained O'Neal from the Lakers in exchange for Caron Butler, Lamar Odom and Brian Grant, plus a draft pick.

Johnson, a 12-times All-Star and three-times MVP who left the court in his prime 15 years ago after finding he was HIV positive, tops the NBA list with a career average 11.2 assists a game.
