Liu Guangsong of China lost his quarterfinal of the men's 84kg taekwondo at the 15th Asian Games here on Saturday.

The 25-year-old Liu, national champion in 2006, was toppled by Yossef Karami from Iran 7-(-1) in the quarterfinals.

Karami, 23, showed flexibility and took the lead from the very beginning. In the third set, Liu received Kyong-go (warning penalty) twice to lose one point.

"Karami was very strong on the mat and I didn't use the right tactics to attack him," Liu said after the competition.

"The result is not beyond our expectation. Chinese men's taekwondo players still need practice in the international competitions," Liu's coach Du Bai said.
