LONDON, Dec 6 - Tottenham Hotspur and Middlesbrough were charged by the FA on Wednesday with failing to control their players following a mass brawl during their Premier League game at White Hart Lane.

"The charges relate to a mass confrontation in the 86th minute of the match at White Hart Lane on Tuesday night. The clubs have until December 21 to respond," the FA said on its Web site www.thefa.com.

Middlesbrough, who lost the match 2-1, have appealed against midfielder George Boateng's red card for violent conduct.

The case will be heard on Thursday, the FA said.

Boateng and Tottenham defender Didier Zokora were sent off late in the game after scuffles on the touchline.
