Seven men's teams and four women's bade farewell to the Doha Asiad's beach volleyball event Tuesday after losing in the sudden-death matches.

Two Indian duos and pairings from Sri Lankan, Bahrain, Oman, the Philippines and Cambodia all progressed to the next stage of the men's event, while four women teams from Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand will play in the next two matches of the second-chance bracket.

In women's competition, the only Hong Kong duo, Kong Cheuk Yee and Tse Wing Hung was defeated by their Malaysian peers 10-21, 24- 26 after a 48-minutes tussle, thus ending their journey in Doha.

"We should improve our spiking and receiving to play better next games," said Tse.

Japanese fourth seeds Chiaki Kusuhara and Satoko Urata came from a set and 19-16 down in the second to steal a nail biting victory from Yelena Alekina and Marina Storozhenko of Kazakhstan, securing their future in the game.

"My heart was going up and down and my hands were sweating, but I always believed in my team," said Tomohisa Yamamoto, coach of the Japanese pairing.

Twenty-three teams are participating in the men's tournament, while 14 teams are competing in the women's.

Two Chinese women's teams, who all entered the next round with straight-set victories, are the favorites for the gold after they wrapped up gold and silver medals for women's action and won a third place in the men's final at the 2002 Busan Asiad.
