Syria won its first gold medal at the Doha Asian Games through swimming Zyad Rafd Almasri in the men's 50m freestyle here on Monday.

Almasri clocked 22.41 seconds to take the title, he was followed by Makoto Ito of Japan in the second place at 22.77.
