TOKYO, Dec 2 - Japan's Nobuo Nashiro won a unanimous points decision over Mexican Eduardo Garcia in the first defence of his WBA super flyweight title on Saturday.

Nashiro began the 12-round fight nervously but was never seriously threatened in his first test since claiming the title in only his eighth professional bout in July.

"I was more focused on not losing than winning," the 25-year-old said after preserving his perfect record. "I hope I can avoid making the same mistakes next time."

Nashiro captured the world title from Mexico's Martin Castillo when their fight was stopped after just a minute but he was made to work harder by Garcia in Osaka.

"I took quite a few good right-hand punches," he acknowledged. "That forced me to be a little tentative."
