The 1996 Atlanta Olympic gold medalist Zulfiya Zabirova posed the biggest threat to Chinese women cyclists in the upcoming Doha Asian Games to be held from December 1 to 15, said a Chinese official here on Tuesday.

"Zulfiya Zabirova has well passed her golden years, but she remains as Asia's best road cyclist with solid skills and rich experience," said Cai Jiadong, China's cycling team leader.

The former Russian sprint expert, who represents Kazakhstan, placed ninth in the world championships this year, while Chinese Li Meifang finished a disappointing 26th.

"We should forget the past and get ready for the Asian Games," added Cai.

Li Meifang and Wang Li will battle against Zabirova for medals in the women's road time trial in Doha.

Zabirova will also participate in the women's individual road race, challenging two other Chinese Meng Lang and Zhao Na.

The 15th Asian Games cycling competition will be held from November 3 to 14.
