Japan's Olympic judo champion Tsukada to miss Doha Games
(Xinhua)Updated: 2006-11-28 09:54 The Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) announced on Monday Olympic judo gold medalist Maki Tsukada has withdrawn from the Doha Asian Games over a calf injury. Mai Tateyama, a young Japanese judo player at the age of 20, will replace Tsukada to participate in the upcoming 15th Asian Games, the JOC said. Tsukada, winner of the over 78-kilogram title in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, got injured during a training session in Japan, it said. She will need about four weeks to recover. Japan grabbed eight gold medals in judo in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.
