South Korea's Daegu city said Monday that it will officially submit its bid to host the 2011 World Athletics Championship to the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) in Monaco.

"According to an opinion poll, about 92 percent of the citizen of Daegu are expecting to host the World Athletics Championship in 2011," Daegu's Mayor Kim Bum-il said after he signed the official bid.

South Korean Prime Minister Han Myeong-sook and other officials will sign on the document before it is sent to the IAAF on Wednesday, officials of Daegu, which is 300 km south of Seoul, said.

Daegu plans to host the championship from August 28 to September 4, 2011. There are eight cities, including Brisbane in Australia, having shown their interests in hosting the championship.

Members of the IAAF council will decide the host city of the 2011 championship in an executive meeting in Mombasa, Kenya, on March 27 next year.
