South Korea's national baseball team said Tuesday that it would fight for the gold medal in the upcoming 15th Asian Games in Doha, Qatar.

"It's needless to say that our goal is the gold medal," said an official of the team.

In preparation for the upcoming Asian Games, the South Korea baseball team played two warm-up games in the Southeastern port city of Busan with the local professional club the Lotte Giants and was analyzing their opponents' games on video.

Many South Korean players are looking forward to the gold medal in the Asian Games so that they can be exempt from military service, local media said.

South Korea has given an exemption to the athletes who brought home any medals from the Olympic Games or gold medals in the Asian Games.

Among the 22-strong team, 14 players have yet to finish their military service.
