Zambia's national table tennis team is yet to raise money for its outing for South Africa to attend next month's Zone Six Championship, local newspaper Zambia Daily Mail reported Thursday.

Zambia Table Tennis Association (ZTTA) has failed to raise 20 million kwacha (about US$5,000) required for its players' trip to South Africa.

ZTTA president Charles Chenda was cited as saying that his association was still struggling to raise the funds because of poor response from the corporate organizations.

"We've been trying to look for money here and there but the response has not been positive," Chenda said.

He appealed to the Ministry of Sports, Youth and Child Development to bail out the cash-trapped association.

Chenda said there was need for the Zambian government to assist them with 40 percent of the required money so that they could raise the remaining amount.

He added that the association was planning to send six players for the championship.
