Cricket-Cox joins Australia's national selection panel(Reuters)Updated: 2006-11-16 15:01 SYDNEY, Nov 16 - Former Tasmania batsman Jamie Cox has been named as Australia's fourth national selector, Cricket Australia (CA) said on Thursday. The 37-year-old Cox played 264 first-class matches for Tasmania and English county Somerset in a 19-year career. "It is an exciting time in Australian cricket and I'm really looking forward to the role," Cox said in a statement. "I'm sure there will be some challenging times ahead and some tough decisions to be made, however, that comes with the role and is something that any selector will experience. "We have a fantastic core of experienced players along with a talented and ambitious group of young players who are emerging into international cricket. "There will certainly be some transition in the side over the next few years so it is an exciting time to be involved with the group," Cox replaced Allan Border on the selection panel after the former Australia captain resigned last month saying he did not have enough time to do the job properly. Former Australia players Andrew Hilditch, the chairman, David Boon and Merv Hughes are the other national selectors.
