Singapore racehorse owner Emily Yong celebrated her 34th birthday in some style on Monday, thanks to what she calls a "gift from heaven".

Yong's unfancied horse Mr Line romped to victory in Sunday's US$1.35 million (US$868,700) Singapore Gold Cup to put a broad smile on Yong's face and hand her the best early present she could have wished for.

Yong, whose connections pocketed $796,500, said: "Mr Line was not even born when we bought his mother Miss Maleva.

"He's probably a gift from heaven," she told Singapore's Straits Times.

The four-year-old gelding was ridden by South African jockey Jeff Lloyd.

The Singapore Gold Cup is the city-state's second-richest race behind May's $3m Internationl Cup.

Together with the Kranji Mile and the Raffles Cup, the Singapore Gold Cup makes up the Singapore Triple Crown Series.
