Future Hall of Famer Roger Clemens and Houston Astros team mate Andy Pettitte filed for free agency on Monday.

The Astros indicated that they hope to re-sign both veteran pitchers but Clemens and Pettitte have not yet signalled whether they will return for another season.

Clemens, 44, was ready to retire last season after pitching for the U.S. at the World Baseball Classic but the seven-times Cy Young winner was lured back to the mound with a one-year $22 million deal and posted a 7-6 record.

"It's been a blessing to come home and do this," Clemens said on MLB.com. "I also hear when Boston calls and when the Yankees have something to say.

"It's very flattering, but the ball goes into my court once I decide if I'm going to play.

"I know it's too early a question to ask me. But it's something Andy obviously doesn't want to talk about."

Pettitte, 34, has also hinted at retirement after an injury plagued 14-13 season and said he would need more time to decide his future plans.
