Federer arrives in Shanghai for Masters Cup(Xinhua)Updated: 2006-11-07 09:22 World top-ranked player Roger Federer arrived in Shanghai Monday afternoon for the upcoming Masters Cup, along with his girl friend and agent Mirka Vavrinec.
Federer was supposed to arrive in Shanghai last Wednesday, but his fourth visit to the city was postponed to a week later when he received an invitation from the organizing committee of the Masters Cup in Paris last week. However, Federer quit the matches due to exhaustion.
Rafael Nadal, the French Open Champion, also postponed his arrival date to attend the season-ending tournament after withdrawing from the Paris Masters. He will be in Shanghai on Wednesday, when another four players, Andy Roddick, Nikolay Davydanko and the Bryan's brothers, arrive. Ivan Ljubicic, fourth on the current ATP standings with 2,395 points, will arrive for the eight-day tournament Tuesday. The rest, David Nalbandian, Tommy Robredo and James Blake, will be in the city two days before the opening of the Shanghai Masters on Sunday. The top eight players, who all missed the Paris Masters, will be split into two groups of four at the Shanghai Masters. The Tennis Masters Cup doubles field was completed after Poles Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski secured the final team berth on Thursday. Other duos in the elite-eight team field include Bob and Mike Bryan; Jonas Bjorkman and Max Mirnyi; Paul Hanley and Kevin Ullyett; Mark Knowles and Daniel Nestor; Martin Damm and Leander Paes; Fabrice Santoro and Nenad Zimonjic; and Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram.
