Penpix of leading European contenders in the Breeders' Cup races on Saturday at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky:

TURF

HURRICANE RUN (7-2) Trainer: Andre Fabre in France. Jockey: Christophe Soumillon.

Winner of Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in 2005 and the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot in July but beaten in his last three races. Looks vulnerable especially at the end of a tough season.

RED ROCKS (8-1) Trainer: Brian Meehan in England. Jockey: Frankie Dettori.

Has improved steadily all season and ran a respectable third last time out in the English St Leger. Good sort but faces easily stiffest task to date.

SCORPION (10-1) Trainer: Aidan O'Brien in Ireland. Jockey: Mick Kinane.

Winner of the English St Leger last season but came 10th in the Arc in the same year. Seasonal debut this year delayed until early this month because of split pastern but trainer delighted with his recent work.

CLASSIC

GEORGE WASHINGTON (10-1) Trainer: Aidan O'Brien in Ireland. Jockey: Mick Kinane.

Exciting but quirky high-class colt whose season has comprised victories in the English 2,000 Guineas and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot and two losses. Having his first run on dirt in a particularly hotly contested event and tackling further than a mile for the first time but still a potential threat.

DAVID JUNIOR (11-1) Trainer: Brian Meehan in England. Jockey: Jamie Spencer.

Winner of the Champion Stakes at Newmarket in 2005 and the Dubai Duty Free and Eclipse Stakes at Sandown Park this year. Talented performer but faces toughest test of his career.
