Horse racing-Fallon confident in Melbourne Cup ride Yeats

Irish jockey Kieren Fallon is confident his mount Yeats can become the third
European-based horse to taste success at the A$5.1million (US$3.9 million)
Melbourne Cup next week.
"How does the Melbourne Cup winner look, boys?" the six-times British
champion jockey asked reporters as he returned to the stable from a training
workout on Monday.
The Ascot Gold Cup and Goodwood Cup winner has been allocated a top weight of
59kg for the 3,200m slog at Flemington on November 7 and would emulate Vintage
Crop (1993) and Media Puzzle (2002) as European winners should Fallon's mount
prevail.
Europe's top stayer will have its final full workout at Flemington on Tuesday
alongside the likes of fellow international raider Delta Blues, the Japanese
hope that finished a storming third in the Caulfield Cup prep race earlier this
month.
Yeats was among nine international entries remaining in the field for the Cup
at the third declaration stage on Monday with the final declarations set to be
announced on Saturday.
Fallon, who is banned from riding in the U.K. pending a fraud trial, was
cleared to ride in the Cup after receiving a 10-meeting suspension by stewards
for causing interference in a race at Melbourne's Moonee Valley course on
Saturday.
The ban expires at midnight on November 6, allowing the Irishman to make his
first challenge for Australia's richest horse race. ($1=A$1.30)
