| Ferrari, 16, overcame her drop from the beam to
demonstrate a superb floor exercise routine in her last discipline to win by
61.025 points. She finished second in the qualifiers behind defending champion
Chellsie Memmel.
Jana Bieger, a member U.S. squad in 2005 Melbourne worlds, finished second
with 60.750 points, and Romanian Sandra Raluca Izbasa was third with 60.250
points.
Ferrari, born in Oreinovi of Italy, which is close to Brecia, spearheaded
Italy to the team's title in the European Championships and won a silver in
floor exercise in Volos of Greece this year.
"I am happy with the gold. After I fell from the beam, I was very upset. But
I think I kept the chance alive after seeing the scoreboard, and I tried to
overtake others in floor exercise," said Ferrari.
"I dedicate the gold to the team, to my parents and especially to the
gymnasts who did not come for injury," added She.
"I know she is better on floor than others. After the beam, I told her to do
what she could and she succeeded. She has demonstrated she could be the best
under pressure," said Enrico Casella, Ferrari's coach.
Chellsie Memmel was out of the all-around finals for shoulder injury,
incurred by her fall from the uneven bars in team's finals on Wednesday.
"It's a lot of fun to win the silver. It's great to be able to represent
America to compete here and win a medal," said Bieger, a silver medalist in
team.
