Teams in the Cyprus' women first basketball division are getting serious about the new season as they try to introduce proven international players to the domestic basketball scene.

Reigning champions of Cyprus, K.V. Imperial AEL, have signed three new players, local press reported on Thursday.

The most prolific is Serbian combo guard Tamara Ruzic, an extremely explosive player who is expected to provide a lot of scoring opportunities for the team.

Ruzic can immediately change the complexity of a game from the moment she steps on the court as her versatility allows her to play as a point guard, shooting guard or small forward.

Ruzic spent last season playing in the Swedish first division for Solna Vikings where she averaged 14 points and almost 5 rebounds per game.

Other signings include Serbian center Biljana Pavicevic who played last year in Hungary for DKSK Miskolc and American point guard Casey Rost, the sister of ex-APOEL player Levi Rost.

Rost graduated from Western Michigan University where she most recently averaged 18 points and 4 rebounds per game.

The schedule for the upcoming season was recently announced and this year seven teams will compete in the first division.

K.V. Imperial AEL are free in the first round, while APOEL will face Intercollege ETHA, a team that has been re-established from this season, Keravnos Cyprus College host Frederick Achilleas Kaimakliou, and Anagennisi Yermasoias play YDRA Asphalistiki ENAD.
