The father of French tennis player Aravane Rezai was found guilty of using violence against the father of a rival player, lawyers said Thursday.

Arsalan Rezai and George Ayassamy, the father of Aravane Rezai's opponent in the final of the 2004 French championship for 17-18-year-old players, got into a fight on the eve of the match.

Arsalan Rezai was fined euro500 (US$634) for the use of violence and insulting language.

The French Tennis Federation hired bodyguards to prevent another altercation between the two men during the final. Aravane Rezai, now ranked 62nd by the WTA, beat Virginie Ayassamy in that match.

Arsalan Rezai, who immigrated to France from Iran, did not attend last week's trial.
