Filipino billiards icon Efren Reyes bagged 500,000 U.S. dollars as he emerged victorious over Rodney Morris in the International Pool Tour World Open 8-ball Championship on Monday (Manila time) in Reno, Nevada.

"I thought it was just a dream but it was true," Reyes was quoted by DZMM radio as saying on Monday.

On Sunday, Reyes lost to Morris, 7-8, in the six-man semifinals. He, however, earned a rematch with the American for the championship at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino by edging Mika Immonen of Finland for the second finals seat.

The Filipino cue master beat Immonen, 8-3, and also nipped the Finnish star in a tiebreaker based on the percentage of games won during the course of the 3-million-dollar event which offers the champion 500,000 U.S. dollars, the richest in professional billiards this year.

Reyes also beat compatriot Dennis Orcollo (8-6) and Corey Deuel (8-4) to finish with the same 3-2 record in the round-of-six as Immonen, who prevented Morris from sweeping the final group stage with an 8-5 victory.

The International Pool Tour, or IPT, is the world leader in professional pocket billiards. The IPT has six major professional pool tournaments in 2006 with qualification pocket billiards tournaments throughout the world for aspiring professional pool players.
