Beijing Radio announced on Monday it will officially launch digital multi-media broadcasting service on Sept. 6, which will broadcast high-definition digital audio and video programs to mobile equipment.
The station has been offering a digital audio broadcasting service since April on a trial basis.
"From the beginning of 2007, the station will also begin to transmit information about government affairs, daily life, the city and real-time traffic and weather conditions," said Wang Liang, head of the station, at a press conference.
The receiving terminals must be equipped with digital video broadcasting chips to gain access to digital multi-media broadcasting service.
Many cellular phone users in China are already watching TV programs through the mobile communication networks of China Mobile and China Unicom.
