NANJING - Brazil coach Aluisio 'Lula' Ferreira is confident his team will shine at the FIBA World Championship despite losing to France in the bronze medal game at the Stankovic Cup.

The South American outfit were beaten 86-74 in their final game in China but Lula believes the competition will stand his team in good stead in Japan.

"The team did not have a good day and suffered physically. They did not have enough energy to beat a high quality team like France," he told the Brazil Basketball Confederation's official website.

"However, this tournament was very important for us because we faced European teams who play very strongly, with tactic discipline and controlled the ball very well.

"I think we'll get to Japan already accustomed to the level we'll face in the championship and will be ready to play a good tournament."

Guard Marcelinho, who scored eight points, added: "It was an even game during the first half but the team lacked aggression in defence, although we were still able to attack well.

"In the second half, our attack decreased and France took control of the game and were able to build up a points advantage. Against this kind of team, it is difficult to reduce a wide gap.

"But I think we're in good form," he added. "We played excellent against Argentina and the United States, who are strong teams and candidates to win the title.

"Against those teams we showed that we are at the same level as them and earned confidence.

"There are still some things we need to work on but we are ready. It will be a very even World Championship and we must be careful in every game."

Brazil will begin their World Championship campaign on Saturday against Australia. Qatar, Turkey, Greece and Lithuania complete the Group C line-up.
