Weather forecasters in Germany are predicting mostly fine conditions for Sunday's World Cup final at Olympic Stadium.

Heavy rain and storms forced organizers to cancel the "Africa's Calling" concert in the German capital on Friday night and rain continued on Saturday morning. A media center adjacent to Berlin's Olympic Stadium was evacuated due to safety concerns in the early evening on Friday, but a rehearsal for the closing ceremony continued inside the stadium.

FIFA communications director Markus Siegler said there were all sorts of contingencies available in case of heavy rain, including delaying the start or even postponing the match until Monday.

The prospect of having to reschedule the final was extremely remote, he said Saturday.

The German weather service forecast a low of around 18 Celsius (65 Fahrenheit) for Sunday evening. Morning showers are expected to clear in the afternoon with a maximum temperature of 28 C (83 F). There was a 20 percent chance of rain during the night.

The France-Italy final is scheduled to kick off at 8 p.m. local time (1800 GMT).

Germany 2006 spokesman Gerd Graus said the pitch was well drained and should be in suitable condition for the final.

"The turf is in a condition to absorb the very strong rainfall, we have no concerns," Graus said.

There is cover for fans in the seats at Olympic Stadium but the pitch is unprotected. The stadium, originally built for the 1936 Olympics, was renovated in 2004.

The semifinal between West Germany and Poland at Frankfurt in 1974 was the only World Cup match to be delayed because of weather _ with a late kickoff because of heavy rain, Siegler said. The West Germans won that match 1-0 and also won the final.

The teams were not allowed to practice at the match venue on Saturday. Italy was to have a training session at Duisburg before traveling to Berlin. The French squad scheduled an evening practice session at another venue in Berlin.
