Hollywood to make movie based on London's Olympic Bid (Xinhua) Updated: 2006-07-06 11:13
Hollywood studio Paramount/Nickelodeon has signed a deal with British TV
director Daryl Goodrich to make a feature-length movie based on his video that
helped London win the bid for the 2012 Olympics, reports said Wednesday.
Goodrich's three-minute promotion video was shown as part of the London bid
committee's final presentation to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in
Singapore last year.
It seemed that the short film, titled Inspiration, impressed the IOC members
as London was chosen to host the 2012 Games.
The video featured a Mexican boy and his rusty bike, a South African runner,
a Chinese gymnast and a Russian swimmer, all later revealed as Olympic athletes.
After signing the deal in Hollywood last week, Goodrich said that making the
Olympics promotion video had been his "proudest moment" and it was "amazing" it
had now launched his film career.
The movie, with the working title of " Legend of the Rings," will be about
five children from around the world all striving to become Olympic athletes and
is expected for release in time for the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
Within days of London's selection as 2012 host, Hollywood studios and agents
began calling Goodrich and his producer Caroline Rowland about possible
projects.
Advised by renowned British film producer Lord Puttnam, whose credits include
the Oscar-winning "Chariots of Fire", Goodrich and Rowland set up a production
company and were considering various film ideas with sports themes.
