Bookie involved in Cup bets nabbed in Pakistan

Updated: 2006-07-06 08:45 Police have arrested the infamous bookmaker in Pakistan's south port city Karachi for his alleged involvement in raising bets worth millions of rupees as regards World Cup semi-final, local private Geo TV reported on Wednesday.
The Town Police Officer Saddar Sanaullah Abbasi said that the bookie Ibrahim operating in the Lyari, Kharadar and Mithadar areas in Karachi had taken bets worth millions of rupees on Italy-Germany match in the World Cup semi-final. After getting the information, the police Tuesday night raided and arrested the accused at Kharadar and recovered bet chits besides drugs from him. The police have registered two cases against the accused one under the Gambling Act and another under Narcotic Act, according to the reports |
