NSW's police riot squad has dispersed hundreds of soccer fans in Sydney, after Portugal made it through to the World Cup semi-finals.

This morning, Portugal defeated England 3-1 in a penalty shoot-out after the sides finished in a 0-0 draw.

Thousands of fans, chanting "Portugal, Portugal", took to the streets after England was knocked out.

Despite the police crackdown, there were no arrests.
