China commentator's Cup rant reborn as ring tone

A Chinese TV announcer's headline-making rant has become music to the ears of Chinese cellphone users, combining their love for mobile chatter and World Cup soccer into a single new accessory.


Chinese popular sports commentator Huang Jiangxiang. The sign reads, "Penalty! Penalty!","Grosso's done it! Great Italian left back! Chinese soccer fans looking to customise their phones with their favourite pastime can now download Huang Jianxiang's reaction to Italy's victory over Australia as a ringback tone -- the sound a caller hears while waiting for someone to answer.

"Goooooal! Game over! Italy win!. Beat the Australians! ... Italy the great! ... Happy birthday to Maldini! Forza Italia!" Huang screamed as Francesco Totti converted a last-minute penalty to send Italy into the quarter-finals.

"The victory belongs to Italy, to Grosso, to Cannavaro, to Zambrotta, to Buffon, to Maldini, to everyone who loves Italian soccer!... (Australia) should go home. They don't need to go as far away as Australia as most of them are living in Europe. Farewell!"

Huang's outburst made headlines and sparked debate in local media and online chat rooms and he later apologised for his show of bias.

Not one to miss an business opportunity, Chinese Web site www.02cq.com.cn had not one, but three different clips from Huang's rant on its site available for download for 2 yuan (25 U.S. cents) a pop.
