(dailytelegraph.com)
Updated: 2006-06-28 16:04 The Socceroos' World Cup loss to Italy delivered SBS its second highest ratings ever. Screened live from Germany, the public broadcaster recorded an average national audience of 2.28 million viewers for the match, which aired from 1am (AEST) yesterday. It was second only to the 2.5 million viewers who watched the Socceroos' qualifying match against Uruguay in November during prime time. Since the World Cup coverage began on June 9, the tournament has delivered SBS the ratings it expected. Last week, SBS attracted a national average audience of 2.02 million for Australia's match against Croatia, which began at 5am (AEST). On June 12, 2.16 million viewers witnessed Australia's 3-1 victory over Japan, which kicked off at 11pm (AEST). When the Socceroos lost 2-0 to Brazil a week later, a national average audience of 1.53 million viewers tuned in from 2am (AEST). “We are absolutely over the moon about the audience figures,” Mr Field said of the results. |
