Rays of World Cup sunshine for Arsenal and Salgado (AFP) Updated: 2006-06-23 13:40 The 22-year-old has already shown that to his fans at Highbury, and while he,
unlike Salgado, will have further World Cups to look forward to, he seems
desperate to force his way into Aragones' team.
"I've been working hard, but at the end of the day it's the coach who
decides, not me," said Reyes, who has had to watch while fellow Arsenal
team-mate Cesc Fabregas turned in a match winning performance - setting up two
of the goals - in the 3-1 win over Tunisia.
"But I hope to do enough to show the boss that I'm worth being included for
more matches."
With a second round knockout clash against the runner-up in Group G, in which
France, Korea and Switzerland are all vying for the top two places, Spain know
the level of competition is about to step up.
Reyes plays at Arsenal with Thierry Henry, but he claims it was still too
soon to be dissecting videos of the Frenchman in action.
"For the moment we are concentrating on the match against the Saudis. Maybe
afterwards we will start to look at videos of France," he said.
France, who sit third in Group G on two points, face already eliminated Togo
in a bid to finish first or second.
Group leaders Switzerland, who like second-placed
South Korea have
four points, face each other in what should be a nail-biting encounter.
Spain for the moment have no idea who they will be playing, although the
general feeling in Spain is that it could be France.
Salgado however said they are ready for any opponent.
"France are a good side, but if we have serious aspirations to win the World
Cup then we have to go out and beat all the big teams.
"It will be hard, but we have to have confidence in what this team can
do."
