Bangladeshi students to defer exams for Cup (Xinhua) Updated: 2006-06-19 09:12 Many students of Bangladesh's
number one university, Dhaka University, asked the authority to defer their
examinations to watch the World Cup.
So far the Dhaka University authority has not responded to the demand of the
students, but they have made arrangement of food for students to watch the
matches in Teacher-Student Center which provides a big screen.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor MA Faiz said, "We haven't changed the
examinations dates of students, but we have made special arrangement for them to
watch the matches in Teacher-Student Center. They need not go to their
respective dormitories for having their supper at night. They can have it at the
center."
He said both the teachers and students of the university were happy with this
arrangement.
Meanwhile, the Dhaka University campus has wore a festive look with posters
of their beloved players on walls of dormitories and flags of different teams
atop dormitory buildings.
The students have also formed football fans' clubs of Brazil, Argentina,
Italy, Germany and others in the university, which has at least 29,000 students.
A survey in the Dhaka University revealed that the supporters of Argentina
dominated followed by Brazil.
