With time running out, Isaksson started the goal move with a sweeping pass out to substitute Johan Elmander on the right wing. Elmander, who had only been on the pitch for three minutes, performed a couple of stepovers and crossed the ball to far post, where Allback rose to head the ball back across the face of the goal as Ljungberg rushed in.

The 29-year-old midfielder placed his header to the right of the goalkeeper. There was just time for another good Sweden chance before Slovakian referee Lubos Michel, who showed the yellow card eight times, blew the full-time whistle.

Sweden's players were so impressed with the crowd they performed a lap of honor.

"It's unbelievable," Sweden coach Lars Lagerback said. "The support they gave us was fantastic. Even during the game, when we didn't score."
