S.Korea confident of defeating France (Xinhua) Updated: 2006-06-16 10:21 South Korea's national football team displayed its
confidence to defeat France during World Cup match as its coach vowed on
Thursday the players were ready to "surprise France".
According to the South Korean Yonhap News Agency, South Korea's national team
coach Dick Advocaat said Thursday in German city of Leverkusen that "we are to,
maybe, surprise (France) this time."
Earlier on Wednesday, South Korea's assistance coach Pim Verbeek told
Korean newspaper after a recovery training session from the team's first match
against Togo in Germany that "It's time to win."
"France is surely a great team, but it has weaknesses, too. We need to
capitalize on countering and I believe we can do it with our speed," Lee
Chun-soo, the team's winger, told the Korean Times.
"We can grab control of the midfield only if we can repeat the tough
pressure on the pitch as we did in 2002," another player Lee Young-pyo told
South Korean reporters in Germany earlier.
South Korea and France will meet in their second match of Group G in the
World Cup finals, beginning at GMT 2300 Sunday, in Germany.
In previous matches of the Group G, South Korea beat Togo 2-1 while
France drew Swiss with 0-0.
