Cech won't talk to Chelsea teammate Essian before match against Ghana (AP) Updated: 2006-06-16 09:18
A victory would mean a place for the Czechs in the second round as long as
the United States does not beat Italy.
"We all know well that we need three more points and we don't want to wait
for them till the game against Italy," Cech said. "We'd like to get them as soon
as possible."
The Czech Republic also secured a spot in the second round at the European
Championship two years ago and its World Cup team wants to follow suit.
"We'd like to repeat Euro 2004 where we had a spot in the second round
assured after two matches. If we have six points here, we'll be near advancing
and we'll try to have them (by Saturday)."
"Our target is to be in the last 16 and after that we'll see."
The Czechs suffered a blow with injuries to their two main strikers, Jan
Koller and Milan Baros who will be unavailable. Cech believed the team will cope
with the loss.
"We were without Jan Koller part of the qualifying and in the playoffs and we
succeeded," he said. "We believe we can do it again."
