Football yoga debuts in China (chinanews.cn) Updated: 2006-06-15 11:00 A kind of football yoga
recently debuts in Chengdu, west China Sichuan province. It is the first time
for this kind of yoga to be introduced to China.
Holding a ball in hand, practitioneers make it move through every joint of
the body to musical accompaniment and the ball seems to work with the body in a
perfectly way. The exercise, called football yoga, is jointly created by coaches
from the Asian Yoga Federation and the Indian Gandhi Yoga and Natural Treatment
Institute.
As most of the World Cup football matches are kicked off at midnight and some
last until five in the morning, many Chinese soccer fans will have to stay up
all night to watch the games. The football yoga can help improve the health
conditions of these soccer fans and renew their vigor both physically and
mentally, said Zhang Wei, head of the Asian Yoga Federation Sichuan branch.
According to Ruixi, a postgraduate at the Indian Gandhi Yoga and Natural
Treatment Institute, people normally wake up when the sun rises and go to bed
after sunset.
This biological clock is the result of human beings' adaptation to the
environment. During the World Cup season, soccer fans' biological clock will be
disturbed and their eyesight, digestive system and sleeping habits affected, and
the spinal column will be damaged, too.
With the football yoga exercise, soccer fans can concentrate all their energy
on the football. By doing so, fans will not only have a chance to play with the
ball, the exercise will be good to their health as well.
Zhang said that the football yoga exercise does not involve any commercial
interest. Any soccer fans in Chengdu can learn it free of charge and experience
the fun and benefits it brings.
