Chinese boys to appear in Cup finals (chinanews.cn) Updated: 2006-06-15 10:53 Zheng Zeyang, a fourth-grade student in a Shanghai
primary school, may get much admiration from soccer fans, as the 11-year-old
Chen with another three boys will fly to Germany on July 5 serving as caddies in
World Cup finals, who will also be the first Chinese boys to show up at the
World Cup matches.
With tan skin and strong body, Chen says he does physical exercises for three
hours every day. He wishes his beloved Brazilian Team would fight into the
finals, and then he could wear children-sized Brazilian Team Uniform and hold
Ronaldinho's hand entering the stadium.
"I want to take my pen with me, and ask for Ronaldinho's signature," he said
excitedly.
After participating in a friendship soccer match with Japanese and South
Korean caddies in Germany, Chen and the other three boys will also have a grand
dinner with all the caddies from all over the world.
For the trip, Chen not only furthered his English study, but also learned
some German. "Look! Here are the 2008 Beijing Olympics mascots 'Five
Friendlies'. I will take them to Germany and give them to foreign friends as
gifts. I will also invite them to come to China for the Olympics in 2008," said
Chen.
There are altogether 1,409 children from 47 countries selected as World Cup
caddies. It is the first time for Chinese boys to join the activity, with the
four lucky ones selected from more than 2,000 applicants countrywide.
Chen has devoted to soccer for 5 years. "The happiest thing soccer gives me
is friendship," Chen smiled.
