France hold no fear for South Korea, says Lee (Reuters) Updated: 2006-06-15 09:49
LEVERKUSEN, June 14 - South Korea have no reason to fear France in their
Group G clash on Sunday, winger Lee Chun-soo said on Wednesday.
The day after scoring a sumputous freekick in Korea's unconvincing opening
2-1 win over Togo, the bleach-blonde striker said they were used to facing tough
opposition.
"(France) are a team with big name players," he said. "But we are used to
playing against famous defenders with big reputations, it's not a big change for
us.
"All players have their weak spots."
Lee, who turns 25 on July 9, the day of the World Cup final, is a source of
controversy in conservative Korea, where he hit the headlines with his book "The
Hidden Story of the World Cup" after the 2002 finals co-hosted with Japan.
The book contained unflattering passages about team mates and former coach
Guus Hiddink, who used Lee sparingly when the Dutchman guided the Koreans to the
semi-finals on home soil.
Lee, who shouldered aside Lee Eul-yong to take the freekick for the equaliser
against Togo, also said there would be no sign of the stage fright that had
gripped some of his team mates.
"In the first match it's normal to be nervous... That feeling will be gone by
the second game."
