Feeling ill at the World Cup? (AP) Updated: 2006-06-09 17:12 If you've had a few too many
bratwursts while watching the World Cup in Berlin, chances are you'll not have
any problems telling a local doctor where it hurts.
The 6,300 private practice doctors in the German capital speak a combined 51
languages, including English, French and Spanish, but also Kiswahili, Swahili
and Luganda.
"Our doctors are well prepared to treat all groups of foreign language
visitors and residents in their mother tongues," said Dr. Angelika Prehn,
chairman of the Public Doctor's Association of Berlin, in a statement.
English tops the list of second languages for doctors in Berlin, with more
than two-thirds speaking it. One-third speak French, while one-fifth speak
Russian.
Another 346 speak Spanish, 256 Italian, 238 Turkish, 103 Polish, 90 Arabic
and 59 Portuguese
