North Koreans are cheering their South Korean neighbors scoring a goal in the World Cup,at least in a new TV ad.

Amid efforts to bring the divided Koreas together, a new South Korean commercial also features the actual recording of a North Korean announcer.

"Shoot! The header scores!" the announcer cries with a thick North Korean accent. "The South Korean team has scored a golden goal."

The voiceover was taken from the South Korea-Italy match during the 2002 World Cup.

The ad for telecommunications company KTF also shows a fictional North Korean family cheering, being portrayed by ethnic Koreans living in Shanghai, China.

The advertising agency that produced the commercial, Cheil Communications, paid an undisclosed amount in copyright fees to the North to use the announcer's voice, saying it was the first time a South Korean company paid for rights to use North Korean TV content.

The agency said the North had offered to allow a film crew to shoot footage inside the communist country for the ad, but that Cheil declined due to time constraints. The ad includes other footage taken from inside North Korea.

"Korea's performance at the World Cup is not only of interest to South Koreans,in fact, North Koreans are cheering for the team too," KTF chief executive Cho Young-chu said in a statement. "We don't want the World Cup to be only for South Koreans, but for South and North to enjoy it together and be one."

The commercial started airing this month amid the World Cup fever that has gripped the South, where fans hope their team can repeat its surprising performance in 2002 when South Korea reached the semifinals.

There's also interest in the North _ the country's state TV has requested South Korea help relay broadcasts of this year's tournament there. The North Korean team made it to the World Cup quarterfinals in 1966, but failed to qualify for this year's event.
