Sports products manufacturer Nike, the supplier of cleats for Brazils national football team striker Ronaldo, released an official statement on Tuesday about the player's blister issue.

The Brazilian forward had to be replaced during Brazil's last friendly match against New Zealand, last Sunday, due to pain caused by blisters.

During the match, Ronaldo complained that the type of stitching of the new Nike cleats was upsetting him and led to the formation of blisters on both his feet.

"As soon as he contacted us about his discomfort, we brought him the cleats he had been wearing in Madrid," Nike said in the statement.

According to the company, the cleats Ronaldo wore, the Mercurial Vapor III, were developed specially for the player, in order to enhance his performance.

Nike said that the Brazilian striker had been using these cleats for the last three months in Spain and did not complain. The company is now working with its experts in order to enhance the cleats.

Ronaldo took part in Brazil's team practice in Germany on Tuesday and seemed to have no more troubles with the blisters. According to team physician Jose Luiz Runco, the striker has overcome the problem and will continue to practice with the team.

"The problems are over," he said. "The blisters are almost healed."
