MEXICO CITY - Mexican fans may have high expectations for their own team at the World Cup in Germany, but they still don't believe they will beat Brazil.

In a poll conducted among 1,400 Mexicans asking who they thought would win the World Cup, reigning champions Brazil came out on top with 32.2 percent of the vote.

Mexico finished only third, with 9.8 percent confident in their title hopes, behind hosts Germany who polled 11.6 percent of the votes, although only just over 60 percent of those polled actually responded.

Surprisingly the football minnows of USA came fourth in the poll with 2.4 percent, ahead of the likes of France, Argentina, Italy and England.

However, the Mexicans questioned demonstrated their somewhat limited level of football knowledge when asked which players in the squad they had heard of.

Goalkeeper Oswaldo Sanchez came top with a paltry 28.3 percent having heard of him.

Despite the Mexicans coming third in the poll of who will win, less than half of the respondents thought Mexico would make it out of the group stage.

Mexico, who are listed third in the FIFA rankings, face Portugal, Iran and Angola in Group D.
