Tunisia tactics put to the test (Reuters) Updated: 2006-05-30 09:04 TUNIS, May 29 - Tunisia's
World Cup tactics will be put to the test on Tuesday when they kick off a
friendly mini-tournament against national sides with similar styles to Group H
opponents Saudi Arabia, Spain and Ukraine.
The Tunisians warm up with a match against Belarus on Tuesday night before
playing either Libya or Uruguay on Friday.
"This tournament will help us prepare better for the World Cup finals. I hope
we acquit ourselves well in the two matches," Tunisia coach Roger Lemerre said.
Lemerre took Tunisia to the African Nations Cup in 2004 for the first time in
their history and has said he hopes to reach the second round of the World Cup.
Success would help Lemerre banish memories of his 2002 World Cup flop when he
led ex-world champions France to an early exit.
Tunisia, the only North African representatives at the finals, will be making
their fourth appearance after featuring in 1978, 1998 and 2002.
"The preparations have been satisfying, both physically and in terms of
morale. The players are in good condition," said Lemerre. The squad fly out to
Germany next Monday.
