Ukraine shuts out Costa Rica in warmup

KIEV, Ukraine - Serhiy Nazarenko scored midway through the first half, and Andriy Vorobei, Maxim Kalinichenko and Olexiy Belik added goals to lead Ukraine over Costa Rica 4-0 Sunday in a World Cup warmup match.

Nazarenko scored in the 29th minute on a rebound of a shot off goalkeeper Wardy Alfaro, and Vorobei made it 2-0 six minutes later off a pass from Vladyslav Vashchyuk. Kalinichenko scored in the 40th, and Belik added the final goal in the 56th following a pass from Andriy Husin.

Ukraine, preparing for its first World Cup appearance, was without forward Andriy Shevchenko. He injured a knee playing for AC Milan on May 7 but is expected to recover for Ukraine's opener against Spain on June 14.

Ukraine plays Italy on Friday in Lausanne, Switzerland, Libya on June 5 in Wohlen, Switzerland, and is at Luxembourg on June 8. Its World Cup group also includes Tunisia and Saudi Arabia.

Costa Rica is at the Czech Republic on Tuesday in its final prep match. It plays the World Cup opener against host Germany on June 9, then faces Ecuador and Poland.
