Ghana draw 1-1 with Turkey

BERLIN, May 27 - World Cup debutants Ghana drew 1-1 with Turkey in a World Cup warmup match in the northern German city of Bochum on Friday.

Turkey, who failed to qualify for the finals starting on June 9, took a first-half lead when Nihat Kahvecki scored in the 17th minute in a match played in rain before a crowd of 9,738.

Borussia Dortmund striker Matthew Amoah scored the late equaliser for the Black Stars.

Ghana, whose defence includes former Bayern Munich defender Samuel Kuffour, play their first match in Group E against Italy. The United States and the Czech Republic are also in the group.

Turkey's lineup included Bundesliga players Hamit Altintop of Schalke 04 and Nuri Sahin of Dortmund.

Ghana are scheduled to play Jamaica on May 29 in Leicester, England, South Korea on June 4 in Glasgow.

They will officially take up their Germany base in Wuerzburg after the June 4 match in Scotland.
