The Japanese soccer team left for the German World Cup finals Friday afternoon, two days after closing a weeklong training camp in Fukushima Prefecture.

Coach Zico and his 23-man squad will hold final tune-ups in Bonn and play friendly matches against hosts Germany and Malta before facing Australia in Kaiserslautern on June 12 in their opener of first-round Group F.

Japan, making their third consecutive World Cup appearance, will move to Nuremburg for a match against Croatia on June 18 and take on five-time world champions Brazil in their final first-round match in Dortmund four days later.
