Heritage Fevernova: official match ball of the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan 2002
With the days of the pig's bladder and stitched leather long gone, only high-tech materials were used in the production of the Fevernova. Inside the ball, a synthetic foam coating surrounded highly resistant, gas-filled micro-balls, ensuring the optimum in sophisticated control and precision. The new model proved itself in intensive tests at the adidas laboratory in Scheinfeld, Germany. As a result, adidas declared the Fevernova the most precise football of all time. The German manufacturer has supplied the official match ball of the tournament since the 1970 FIFA World Cup and enjoyed the support of global stars such as David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane during the four-year development of the Fevernova. The basic idea and design were taken from the successful Tricolore ball, with alterations to some of the material components and compositions to optimise the ball’s precision. Used in 64 FIFA World Cup games, the ‘wonderball’ crossed the goal line on no fewer than 161 occasions during the tournament.
